Learn Softball with Karis

Hello! My name is Karis Pfeiffer and I would love to be your next softball coach! I have played for over 10 years, beginning as a first grader and spanning into High School where I made the varsity team as an incoming freshman. Throughout that time I have played the positions of first base, third base, pitcher, short stop, and outfield. Since then I have been student teaching while attending the University of Toledo pursing a degree in Education. I was born and raised in the city of Toledo so I am very familiar with both the area and neighboring baseball diamonds. I can coach both within the area or at your designated practice field. A few fun facts about me: I love animals and have a dog of my own, his name is Lorenzo. I enjoy cooking and reading in my spare time. And I am a huge Notre Dame football fan. Go Irish! I hope you will consider me when looking for a coach and I look forward to meeting my next softball superstar!

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonTell me all about you! Let’s share what positions and skills you love and others that are a bit more difficult. We’ll also talk about how many seasons you’ve played and what you what to learn most out of our lesson’s. Then we’ll practice short/long distance throws, running bases, catching ground balls, and batting. This will give me as idea on where we should start and how to best help you meet your goals.
Lesson 11+Later lessons will be adjusted to best fit the player. Once baseline skills such as throwing, bat form, and base running are applied we will focus on areas the player would like to strengthen and skills best set for their position.
Lesson 4-10We will continue to strengthen our throws and become more accurate in getting the ball directly to our target. I always tell my players we want strikes instead of rainbow throws. Then we will focus on our form when swinging our bats and how to guide our hit to certain areas of the field to make big plays. We’ll learn the importance of strategic throws to certain bases and how to best tag a player to get them out. Lastly, we’ll run a few drills on sliding and stealing bases. At this point lessons will also be individualized based on the position the player is in. Example: if the player is a pitcher a majority of our time will be spent practicing pitching form, ball speed, targeting, and wrist strengthening.
Lesson 2-3Our first few sessions will be focused on knowing the base of the game and how to make our plays most effective. We will focus on conditioning your arms. Strong throws and great hits when batting all stem from a great form. We’ll complete a few short and long distance throwing exercises then practice batting. Lastly, we’ll run a few drills on the proper way to run our bases so we can get to home as quick as possible. And don’t worry, whenever we do running I’ll be running the bases right along with you.

Youth players
Working with kidsAside from being a coach, I am also a teacher, so I am very accustomed with lesson planning to the best of my students/players ability. I always make it my focus to learn about my player and the goals that they have for themselves so we can make sure to achieve those and help them understand no task is too small. I would love to see them strive on the field but more than anything I want to see them find confidence within themselves both in softball and their daily lives.
